Hi there,

Thank you for contacting our Helpline for HIV/AIDS related information.

From what you described, you are at Negligible Risk: this means that theoretically HIV could be transmitted because there are bodily fluids present, but there has never been a confirmed case of HIV from this activity. One reason is because HIV cannot be transmitted once exposed to the air.

Sex with a condom is a Low Risk: this means that there have been very few confirmed cases. When condoms fail it is usually due to them breaking or being improperly removed.

However, I'd like to address the topic of your double condom use. It is great to see that you are using condoms to protect yourself, however, using 2 condoms does *not* increase the protection. It is actually less safe because it increases the chance of friction causing a break in the condoms. You should also keep in mind that washing does not reduce the risk of HIV transmission; safe sex practices and regular testing are what you should be doing instead.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to contact us again by email, or through our online forum or our phone line, if you have further questions.
