Greetings, I have genital herpes and recently I hooked up with a girl. We made out, touch and then she rubbed her bum on my penis and I believe there might of been some genital rubbing that lasted a few seconds. There was no penetration at all. Im worried because I had an herpes out break a few days ago and the sores started healing up before I hooked up with this girl. Is there a possibility that if she had HIV I could of gotten it through the sores? Let’s say the sores didn't heal properly wouldn’t the Hiv pass by entering the sores ? Is this possible ? Even without penetration ? Is this something I should get tested for ?

FYI the girl knows I have herpes but I don’t know her sexual history.

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from your question, you are asking about HIV transmission from genital rubbing following a recent herpes outbreak.

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be of No Risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario).

Transmission is considered to be of No Risk for the following reasons:

To begin with, HIV rapidly decreases in concentration after being exposed to air (1). Since there was no High Risk activity, this further decreases the chance of transmission occurring (see Transmission Equation below). In addition, since there was no penetration involved, there was no direct access to the bloodstream which is another component of our HIV Transmission Equation required for risk of transmission. Having a recent outbreak of herpes would not increase the risk of transmission in the scenario you described.

Please refer to our HIV Transmission Equation below for more information:

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a healthcare professional for other health related questions.
