Two weeks ago I gave a oral sex to another man whom I met from the Net, I'm a man too. He didn't ejaculate. The thing is I was wearing braces and afraid that my mouth got cuts/ open wounds / scrapes from wearing it. Did I expose myself to HIV or other STDS?
Additionally, my partner said that he always practiced safe sex so there is no need to worry about HIV stuff. But I don't trust him much.

To be safe and make myself less anxious, I've got to PEP. But I almost forget to use it only 1 time (on the 6th day). Does that reduce the sufficiency of the medicine?

Please help me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry, From what we gather from your question, you are asking about the possibility of HIV transmission after giving oral sex with braces on.

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be Low Risk (evidence of transmission occurs through these activities when certain conditions are met)

Transmission is considered to be Low Risk for the following reasons:

Performing oral sex without a barrier is considered to be Low Risk in general based on our Transmission Equation (see below). Having braces should not affect the risk assessment of the activity you described above. In regards to the PEP, as long as you remembered to take the missed dose in less than 24 hours it should be fine. It is important not to double up on a dose in the event that you do miss one (1).

Please refer to our HIV Transmission Equation below for more information:

Recommendation: Continue taking PEP and book an appointment for an HIV test according to what is deemed appropriate by a doctor.
