Hi. So i'll cut to the chase. I had unprotected sex with an escort for at most 1-3 seconds at best. I was rubbing my bare penis on her vagina and it went it. Not my whole penis though. Assuming the worst case scenario for example let's say she is infected what are my chance of getting the virus.

Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

I understand you are concerned about your risk of acquiring HIV following an encounter with a commercial sex worker.

Unprotected vaginal sex is a high risk activity since there is a potential for HIV transmission because there is an exchange of body fluids. It does not matter how long the activity lasted, or the depth of penetration. In any case of unprotected penetrative sex, there is the potential exchange of bodily fluids that could result in HIV transmission.

The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested. Antibody tests are the most commonly available and begin to become effective at 4 weeks post-exposure, with all tests being considered conclusive at 12 weeks (or 3 months).

I notice that your partner in this case was an escort. Often, commercial sex workers try to maintain their sexual health through regular testing and prevention methods. HIV does not discriminate. The most important thing to consider is the risk of the activity you engaged in, and ways to protect yourself from acquiring HIV and other STIs during your encounters.

Best of luck with your testing. Please contact us again if you need help finding testing facilities in your area.

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
