Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline!

Unfortunately 2nd generation tests, although accurate, have an extended window period. Although they may be conclusive at 3 months, it is my understanding that many professionals use 6 months for conclusiveness. Therefore, your results may be accurate, but may not be considered conclusive. It may be in your best interest to do a res-test in another month.

I hope I have answered your question and I apologize for not having definitive answers. Most of the tests we deal with here at the Helpline are 3rd or 4th generation, which have a window period of 3 months.

Sincerely,

Caroline
