Hello, and sorry for bothering again. I have already wrote you but i neeed to clarify some things.
I had high risk activity ( unprotected vaginal sex) with a colleague from work. I have done 4 tests total at 2 months, 2.5 months, 82 days and 5 months. All were negative IV gen rapid tests which i done at my counselors office. My counsellors told me i am conclusive. I am not on PEP, chemo, radio therapy nor do i have immuno suppresion. Today i got severe case of tonsilitis, fevers up to 39,6 C. Do i have to pay attention to any illness regarding my test results.

Best regards

Hi there,

Thank you for choosing AIDS Vancouver for your source of HIV/AIDS related information. It's great to see that you are taking initiative when it comes to your health and well being! We strongly encourage individuals to ask questions when they are unsure, so please do not apologize!

Your counsellor is correct, you do not have HIV. A negative result at, or after, the 84 day mark indicates that you do not have HIV (regardless of whether or not you have symptoms). There are no clinically defined symptoms for HIV; the fact that only some, and not all, individuals who are exposed to the virus experience symptoms sheds light on how they cannot be used as a diagnostic tool. The fact that you have developed a fever and tonsillitis is by no means an indication of your HIV status. The only way to know one's status is through testing - which you have already done! If your symptoms continue to persist, I would encourage you to seek out information from your health care provider. Rest assured, your symptoms are not associated with HIV.

At AIDS Vancouver we encourage all sexually active individuals to test for all sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, as part of their health routine. This can be in the form of testing every 3 months, bi-annually, annually, or whatever suits that individual's lifestyle.

I hope I have addressed all of your concerns, and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact us again!

All the best,

Greg
