Hi there!

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for your HIV related questions and concerns. We are happy to help.

I understand you're concerned and confused about whether your thyroid disorder could have possibly given you a false negative result. Let me clear that up for you!

The Normal HIV testing window period is 3 months, meaning all tests are conclusive at 3 months. There are only 4 exceptions to this:

1) if you're on antiviral treatment for Hepatitis C

2) If you're on treatment for cancer (chemotherapy)

3) If you're on PEP/PREP treatment for HIV

4) If you have an immunodeficiency disease (you would know as they're diagnosed in infancy)

In these siituations, the testing window period is 6 months. Your thyroid disorder would NOT affect HIV testing, therefore your tests are all conclusive!

Check out the BC CDC HIV Testing Guidelines for more info [HERE](http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/DownloadAsset?assetId=B4093BA93C2B40D5971127F3E950BE57&filename=hiv-testing-guidelines-bc.pdf)

Hopefully this was able to help you and put your mind at ease!

Sincerely,

Christina
