Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver helpline regarding HIV/AIDS related information.

The 4th generation EIA (combo) test looks for both antibodies and P24 protein antigens. The P24 antigen test is only within first few weeks. The window period of the test is detectable immediately after infection (3-4 days post exposure) for the first 2-4 weeks. The antibody portion of the test is detectable from 3-4 weeks onwards. Many HIV specialists consider this test conclusive at 6 weeks. At 6 weeks it is considered 99.9% accurate.

The test is a good indication of your status at the 38 day mark however, the WHO (World Health Organization) considers testing to be conclusive at the 84 day or 12 week mark.
