Having anxiety. My baby girl was being held by a family friend and she started sucking on his fingers. And I noticed a scab on his finger. If she happened to lick the scab and he had hiv. Could it be transmitted this way?

Hello, a scab has begun to heal and no infectious blood would pass to your child. Please remember that most people are not living with HIV and you should have no reason to presume this friend is living with HIV.

It is also very important to note that HIV may be passed when people engage in unprotected anal/vaginal intercourse and when people inject with shared needles. People living with HIV are not putting babies at risk for transmission.

As a new parent, it is your responsibility to educate yourself and understand risks associated with living life.

David.
