i had a cuticle cut and the cuticle faced upward when i inserted my finger on mouth of a commercial sex trade worker. the cut was not bleeding and 1 day old and sore. i imagine some blood could came out from mouth of her. i am very anxious doctor gave me a test for this i have to wait 1 month. please help me

Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. It seems like you are concerned about your risk of HIV transmission after your put your finger(with a cut) in the mouth of a commercial sextrade worker.

Superficial cuts, like your cuticle, are considered Negligible Risk. This means that there is the potential for HIV infection because there is an exchange of body fluids, however, there has never been a confirmed report.

HIV needs direct access to the bloodstream in order to transmit. This means that the cuts on your finger would have to be deep enough to need stitches to have a chance of providing direct access to your bloodstream.

Another safeguard in your situation is that saliva actually has in it an enzyme that inhibits the transmission of HIV.
