Dear Sir,

I have a query regarding HIV infection. 14 days before i encountered a intercourse with sex worker. I have used condom during the activity and very sure that it didn't break or slip during the activity. But after the sex, i removed condom using my bare hands and touched outer part of condom which entered inside her vagina. And immediately within two seconds after removing the condom, using the same bare hands i cleaned my penis. I am sure that my hands touched my tip part of the penis.

Will this have possibility of infecting me with HIV?

My mail id is loganathanlove@gmail.com

Regards,
Loganathan.

Hi there and thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as a source for HIV/AIDS related information.

First of all, a sex worker is not necessarily at a higher risk for HIV than anyone else. Anyone can pass HIV, no matter what occupation, ethnicity, age, gender or sexual orientation. It is the activity that poses an HIV risk.

You are to be congratulated for using a condom as it is the safest way to prevent HIV transmission. If your condom was used properly I.e. not past expiry date, no breakage/slippage, and removed immediately after ejaculation, the risk is negligible. However, there still remains a possibility of transmission of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's).

As far as your description of the removal of the condom, if properly done as described above, there is absolutely no risk. HIV is an extremely weak virus and dies once exposed to the air. Additionally, HIV needs an airtight host in order for it to survive.

I would encourage you to be tested for all STI's, including HIV, just to make sure your body is healthy and free of infection. For further information please visit our website or a highly recommended site: http://www.safesexresource.com

I trust I have addressed your concerns however, should further information be required, feel free to contact us again.
