Hello,
I went to a massage parlour about about a week ago and got a nude massage with a hand release. We showered after but no vaginally, anal or oral sex took place. I have no cuts or sores and she didn't have any cuts either. Now I got a mild cold and was wondering if it could be a std or I got it from my mom who also has a cold right now. I checked the previous answers and found out one of the above mentioned activities must take place for HIV but I want to ask if there is any other risk as I am very worried

Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. I am happy to answer your question.

You may be happy to learn that you cannot acquire HIV from touching another person. This is because the HIV virus dies when it is exposed to air, and there is no access for the virus to directly enter your bloodstream.

In terms of your cold symptoms, we don't use symptoms here at AIDS Vancouver. This is because some people who are HIV+ show them, others do not, and they often get confused with other illnesses. It sounds like it is more likely that you got the cold from your mom.

I appreciate you doing your research before contacting us! That's great of you. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,

Caroline
