I went into a spa for some whole body massage. A masseur did a massage and it went well. He basically used oil during the massage. After the session, I wore back my underwear but then my hands and fingers touched the inside of my underwear. I mean, I was supposed to wash my hands because my hands have been of course in contact with the hands of the masseur during the session.I do not want to think anything wrong or lowly to the masseur but in case he was HIV positive and his hands has been in contact with my hands in several instances and then my hands accidentally touched the inside part of my underwear which in turn touched the tip of my penis. I mean, I did not felt any wounds or lesions from his hands but if he has HIV, can the virus be transmitted from his hands then to my hands to the underwear which then got in contact with my penis ? Im worried. Thank you.

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for you HIV/AIDS related health information. It sounds like you are concerned about your risk of HIV transmission after having a full body massage.

The situation that you have described is a No Risk situation. Here are some of the reasons why:

* HIV is a Human-to-Human virus. It cannot be transmitted to you by an object. This means that you cannot get HIV from a pair of underwear.

* HIV needs a human host to survive. Once HIV is outside of the body and exposed to oxygen it can no longer transmit. This means that any fluids containing HIV on the masseurs hands or on your underwear has been outside of the body, exposed to oxygen and could no longer transmit.

* HIV needs direct access to your bloodstream in order to transmit. There was no direct access to your bloodstream.

I would encourage you to check out the following resources about HIV:
