Hi Im from the states.. I have recently have taken an HIV test 5 times three times over the counter using an HIV ORAL SWAB KIT and once at the HIV/Aids clinic using an blood HIV RAPID KIT and once at the health department using a 20 min blood test kit. All five tests came out negative.. but I have been having similar symptoms of HIV my possible exposure was eight months to a year ago and I just tested last month the symptoms seems to have been getting worse as weeks go by .. I really don't know what to do is it possible I could still be at risk of Hiv?

Thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum,

It sounds like you are concerned about your symptoms being related to HIV and your negative test results being inaccurate.

First off, symptoms are no way a definitive indicator that someone has acquired HIV. It is important to know that HIV symptoms mirror other viral infections like the flu, so testing is the only way to know if you have acquired HIV.
In regards to the HIV oral swab kit, test results would be conclusive at 3 months, as well as for the blood HIV rapid kit test. These tests have an accuracy of 99.6% after three months.
Because the tests you took are negative and if you have not engaged in sexual activity after the tests, you can consider the test results all conclusive.

To learn more about your symptoms, I strongly suggest you partner up with your medical professional, especially since your symptoms are getting worse. You can also visit our website for more information on HIV testing. I hope my answer was some help to alleviate some discomfort.
