Dear Support team,

I have done a HIV test (HIV I & II Antibody + HIV 1 p24 Ag by Eclia) and it was negative. Last sexual interaction was before the test by one month, and I am worry from that interaction, that's why I have done the test, I know its better to do the test again after like three months to make sure about the result. Can you advise plz. Is the test that I have done conclusive after one month.

Hi there!
Thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver helpline for all your HIV related questions and concerns. We are happy to help!

In terms of the test you took, that's the 4th generation test. Most HIV specialists consider this test to be conclusive at 6 weeks. That being said, BC CDC still goes by 12 weeks, just due to the availability of this test. Additionally though, most cases, up to 95-98% are caught within 4-6 weeks. Therefore, Your test at 4 weeks is highly indicative of your actual test result, but to be sure, retesting at 6 weeks (for the 4th gen test) or 12 weeks, for any other test, is the only way to be sure.

Check out the BC CDC HIV Testing Guidelines [HERE ](http://www.bccdc.ca/NR/rdonlyres/B35EDEBD-98CA-48BB-AB7C-B18A357AC19D/0/BCHIVTestingGuidelinesMay2015.pdf)

Hopefully this helped!

Sincerely,
Christina
