Hello,
I have some concerns about the reliability of the following HIV test ( it turned out to be NON REACTIVE):

4th generation HIV 1/2 Ag/Ab by chemilumiescence.

I took it at a private lab, with blood collection, 60 after the risky situation; such event was vaginal intercourse ( I am a man) with condom, nevertheless I didn't know the status of the condom (If it was out of date or weak) but it didn't feel as breaking (never experienced a breaking condom so I didn't know the feeling).
Also, I would like to know if isotrerinoin ( I am taking it for my acne) can affect such test.
Thank you.

Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

It sounds like you have some concerns about the reliability of your HIV test.

First off, it is great that you went out and pursued HIV testing. Here at AIDS Vancouver we recommend routine testing as it is a great way to stay up to date on your current HIV status. From what you have told me, you pursued a 4th Generation HIV test 60 days post-exposure which generated a Non-Reactive result. Many specialists agree that the 4th Generation test is conclusive at 6 weeks, but official guidelines still recommend re-testing at 12 weeks for completely conclusive results. This Non-Reactive is a reliable result, but if you want to feel more comfortable about your HIV status you can pursue a Rapid Test at 12 weeks post exposure for the conclusive result.

It seems that you are worried about isotrerinoin and how it will affect your HIV test. There are only 4 situations where your HIV testing window period may be affected:

1) Antiviral treatment for Hep C

2) Treatment for cancer (chemotherapy)

3) P.E.P. treatment for HIV

4) Other immunodeficiency diseases

For more information on HIV testing you can visit [HIV Testing](http://www.avert.org/hiv-testing)

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
