Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for you HIV/AIDS related health information. It sounds like you are concerned about the reliability of your test results.

It sounds like you had 3 tests, one of which was a Western Blot test. The Western Blot is considered to be the "gold standard" for confirmation of an HIV infection. The Western Blot test has an accuracy of 99.9% after 4-6 weeks.

All tests are considered conclusive 12 weeks (3 months) post exposure. You say your Western Blot test was done 3 months after unprotected sex. The result was negative. You can trust this negative test result. Your Western Blot test result is considered conclusive.

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
