Hi I wrote to you about the rapid test,I am writing to you not from the U.S.A,I am from Georgia, Caucasus.I called the AIDS Center of Tbilisi about rapid test and they said that they have tests the latest generation and they are very accurate and that I need not worry. I have been in contact with HIV infected, I did a quick test in the AIDS Center 3, 3.5 and 6 months of last contact and all the tests were negative for antibodies. So can I calm down or not? The AIDS Center saying that they had all the tests very accurate and not have to worry.
I'm sorry for my bad English. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as your source for HIV/AIDS related information. I am sorry to hear that you have been very worried about your tests. Let me try to help you!

The AIDS Center in Tbilisi is correct when they say that your test results are very accurate and we, at the AIDS Vancouver Helpline, would agree with the information they have given you. The Rapid Test is a very reliable test that looks for HIV antibodies. HIV antibodies are formed by our body in response to having been exposed to the HIV virus. If your body does not have the antibody, it is because there was no virus present to cause antibodies to form. This is why your tests have come back non-reactive. As per the guidelines AIDS Vancouver follows, all HIV tests are considered conclusive at 3 months or 12 weeks after the last night risk exposure. Since your tests are at 3, 3.5 and 6 months, they can be considered conclusive. As the AIDS Center in Tbilisi told you, you have nothing to worry about. You are HIV negative.

I hope this answers your questions. If you would like to read more about HIV [transmission](http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/risk-assessment-chart) and [testing](http://www.avert.org/hiv-testing), please refer to the links provided.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions. AIDS Vancouver does recommend that all sexually active people be tested on a regular basis for all STI's, including HIV.

Best wishes,

Mary
