Would it be possible for HIV to be transmitted from the tip of my penis/urethra accidentally touching a toilet seat with visible urine on it? To clarify, there was no visible blood in the urine.

Thank you for any answers you can provide!

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting our Helpline for HIV related information. We are happy to assist you.

I can see that you're feeling some anxiety about the possibility of HIV infection from this exposure.

I can assure you that you are at no risk for HIV transmission from what you've described. Urine is not a bodily fluid that transmits HIV. Additionally, even if there had been HIV present, it is no longer transmissible once it is exposed to the air.

Visit our Risk Assessment Chart to find out more about what activities are a risk for HIV transmission: http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/#overlay-context=question/hiv-relates-quaestion&overlay=node/18607/edit%3Fdestination%3Dadmin/dashboard%253Fpage%253D4

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to contact us again through our forums, email, or phone line if you have further questions.

Thanks,

Sandra
