Hi,

Thank you for taking my question. About 5 months back i had a chance to get close to a lady at a massage parlor. I got a hand job done and i sucked her breast nipple for 30-40 secs. I'm worried now, although i didn't taste any blood in my mouth and don't remember having any cuts or sores in my mouth. My question is, while sucking her nipple i think, my teeth could've left a minor scar which could've resulted in minor bleeding from her nipple, what is the risk here in my case? i currently have no symptoms but my mind keeps bothering me. Can you please educate me through your guidance and, is testing necessary?

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for you HIV/AIDS related health information.

It sounds like you are concerned about your risk of HIV transmission after sucking the nipple of a masseuse.

The situation that you have described is a No Risk situation. Here are some of the reasons why:

* HIV needs a human host to survive. Once HIV is outside of the body and exposed to oxygen it can no longer transmit. This means that any bodily fluids on the nipple or breast are outside of the body, exposed to oxygen and therefore, that no longer transmit HIV to you.

* Saliva has an enzyme that inhibits the transmission of HIV. Any bodily fluids that you may have taken into your mouth would have come into contact with saliva and the enzyme with in it.

* HIV needs direct access to your bloodstream in order to transmit. There was no direct access to your bloodstream. Superficial cuts, such as any that were in your mouth, simply do not provide the conditions necessary for transmission to occur. For superficial cuts to potential provide direct access to the bloodstream, they would have to be actively bleeding and in need of stitches or surgery to repair. From what I understand, this was not the case in your situation.
