Hello and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your source of HIV/AIDS related information.

Firstly, I am glad to hear that you got tested as testing is the only way to know your status. Now with a PCR RNA test (NAAT test), it is a test that measures the viral load (or amount of virus) in the blood rather than the antibodies. The window period for this test is between 2-3 weeks of exposure and it has an accuracy rate of 99.6%. That said, seeing that you were tested on day 25, the negative result you received is a good indicator of your HIV status however the result is not considered conclusive. HIV testing guidelines and most HIV specialists deem results as conclusive when a test or re-test is done at or after 12 weeks (84 days) of possible exposure. However, the negative results you received at day 25, in most cases, are not likely to change upon re-testing.

I hope the information I provided is helpful. If you have any further questions please feel free to call or email us.

Take Care,
Darrien
