hello sir, i am HIV negative , as i just got tested for it . I had a deep kiss with a girl for about 2-5 minutes, later the girl informed me that she had diagonsed with HIV , on further inquiry she told me that she has little blood in gums while brushing her teeth. During kiss i didnt felt any blood. Her other results like herpes , syphilis and hepatitis B are negative. how much chances are there of getting HIV infection ?

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for your HIV/AIDS related health information. It seems you have a question about the risks involved in kissing. We're happy to answer your question for you.

The risks involved in kissing depends on the amount of blood involved, if any. We'll assume, however, that there was a negligible amount of blood taken into your mouth, as it sounds like there was very little blood involved, as her gums could not have been bleeding to any significant extent. Assuming this, we'd say this is a no risk situation. This is the case even if she is HIV positive. This means HIV does not transmit this way.

To understand why, know that saliva is actually very capable of destroying any virus in any fluid that comes into your mouth. Also consider that the virus has to have a way of getting direct access to your bloodstream in your mouth. Oral transfers usually only occur if there is a pretty significant wound in your mouth, the type you'd have after major recent dental surgery, for example. For these reasons, we'd say this is no risk.

Thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your questions, we hope they've been answered fully.
