Hello and thank you for your questions. We are happy to help!

I will outline the risk assessments of your activities below:

1) Receiving oral sex: negligible risk. This means that in over 30 million cases worldwide, no confirmed cases have been reported from receiving oral sex.

2) Giving oral sex: low risk. This is a low risk because there is potential for the other person's bodily fluids to come into contact with exposure points in your mouth.

3) Protected intercourse: low risk. This is because condoms do a great job of protecting against HIV, but there can be unexpected problems like condom breakage, etc.

Overall you experienced a low risk. That being said, I'm very happy you got tested! It's always good to get tested regularly if you are sexually active. At 6 weeks, the ELISA test will detect up to 95% of infections, so this is very accurate. It is a very good indicator of your status. However, we do recommend another test at 12 weeks to determine conclusiveness.

As for your symptoms, we do not use symptoms to determine status here at the Helpline. This is because some people show them, others do not, and they often get confused with other illnesses like the flu. Since testing is the only way to determine your status, and you have recently taken a very accurate test, it may be in your best interest to seek other explanations for your symptoms. You may wish to get into contact with your local healthcare professional in order to start feeling better soon!

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you need further clarification.

In health,

Caroline
