Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us at AIDS Vancouver for your HIV related inquires.

The World Health Organization considers all HIV tests to be reliable, accurate and conclusive after 3 months (12 weeks) post exposure. Therefore, the tests that you had at 5 months post exposure can absolutely be trusted and you do not need to test again. It is irrelevant that your blood was cold during the time of testing.

It might be worth noting that many HIV experts are now considering tests results from 6 weeks post exposure to be conclusive. In fact, many individuals develop detectable antibodies within 21-25 days.

I trust this has adequately answered your questions. Feel free to contact us again with any other concerns. You can call us on the helpline at 604-696-4666 or email us at helpline@aidsvancouver.com

In health,
