I have done protected sex on Dec 16th in Singapore with CSW. I was staying in Singapore for past 1.4 yrs. Next day I went back to India. within 6 day I had fever and sore throat. The climate is currently cold here. I had 4th generation elsia test on 12,19 and 25th day. I have also done 4th generation HIV duo cmia test on 28th day. Result for all are non-reactive. Does this mean I am not HIV infected?

Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. We are happy to help!

Firstly, keep in mind that commercial sex workers are often in great health and do not carry the HIV virus simply due to their profession. This is because many of them keep in regular contact with their healthcare professionals and take protective measures for themselves.

In regard to your testing, 4th generation HIV tests are considered conclusive at 6 weeks post exposure. That being said, your test after 28 days (4 weeks), which tested negative for HIV, is going to be highly accurate. You may wish to receive another test at the 6 week mark to determine conclusiveness, but this is your choice.

I hope this helps! Please contact us again if you need further clarification.

Best,

Caroline
