This incident happened at a public toilet. It was kinda dirty with some brown-reddish marks. i used toilet paper, dampen it to make it wet to wipe of some brown- reddish like stains and it came off easily. I have no idea what these marks are.

After which, it was really very stupid of me. I forgot to dispose off the tissue that I used to clean the stains. I used that SAME tissue to wipe my vagina while standing up.

If those BrOwn-reddish marks are HIV positive blood, will I be at any risk for any STDs or HIV? Please help me!

Hi there and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your source for HIV/AIDS related information.

HIV is in fact a very fragile virus that cannot survive long once it is exposed to the air. That said, the virus in the stains, if any, would have been already dead before reaching you. However as we all know HIV is merely one of the many STIs we have known, it is possible that the stains might contain STIs other than HIV, such as Hepatitis A or Hepatitis B. Both Hepatitis A and B can be prevented by vaccination, and they are treatable with medical attentions. Therefore, it might be an option for you to speak with a medical professional about your exposure with possible HAV/HBV-contained fluids and for the availability of Hepatitis A & B tests.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Please feel free to write us back at anytime for more information.

In Health,
