Hello, and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your primary source of information about HIV/AIDS.

I am pleased to inform you that your daughter is NOT at risk for contracting HIV. This is because HIV dies upon exposure to air (oxygen), and cannot live on surfaces such as your car seat.

For a risk of contracting HIV to exist, specific HIV positive fluids (blood, semen, anal fluid, vaginal fluid) must directly access the bloodstream of an HIV negative individual. This must be through an airtight process such as unprotected intercourse, or needle-sharing.

As far as HIV is concerned, there is no reason for your daughter to visit a doctor.

I trust that I have answered your question sufficiently. Should you have further inquiries, please feel free to write back or visit http://www.aidsvancouver.org for more information.

Sincerely,

Marta
