Dear Madam /Sir, i had a cunnilingus with a sex worker, after we had vaginal sex with condom, i am a very anxiety person and this thing of cunnilingus is driving me crazy. I did a rapid test specifically Hiv 1&2 test /rapid POCT at home in the 41 day after and the result is negative. Is this a result to consider sure ? thanks

Hi there, thanks for contacting us with your HIV related questions/concerns. We're happy to help!

Giving oral sex is considered to be a Low Risk activity. What this means is that although there have been a few cases of infection attributed to this activity, they are usually under certain identifiable conditions. In this case, it could be if you have major wounds in your mouth that resulted from a dental surgery. Without conditions like that, the risk is diminished.

Similarly, protected sex is considered a low risk activity as well, and if the condom doesn't break, this greatly reduces the risk.

You took a negative test at 41 days, congrats, that's an awesome result. Tests around that time are considered to be ~95% accurate, which means your results are very unlikely to change. Tests are considered conclusive at 84 days (12 weeks), so if you do another test then, then your results will be conclusive!

Just to note, here at AIDS Vancouver, we don't recommend doing At-Home tests, as there is a higher risk of making a human error (due to not being trained to administer HIV tests) as well as there's no pre/post test counselling. However, if that is the only option available to you, then that's better than nothing.

I hope this helped! please check out our website or avert.org for more reliable HIV information!

Sincerely,

Christina
