Hello and thanks in advance for your support.
I was tested with an INSTI rapid hiv test however the nurse did not open the set in front me as the the pieces were waiting on a tray.
I am losing my mind now because cannot be sure whether the lancet has been used before.
Some sources say that INSTI lancet has a mechanism to prevent reuse. I know that Canada also uses INSTI set. Is this information true? Is it impossible to reuse it again due to mechanism?
Please help me

Hi there,
Thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as your source for HIV/AIDS related information.  I hope that the following information will help to reduce some of the anxiety you may be feeling.
Canadian medical professionals follow strict protocols regarding hygiene, so this is something that you should not worry about.  In the future, if you are at all concerned you can request that the nurse open the needle in front of you to be completely certain.
The information that you have regarding the lancets is absolutely true and are sterile and single use only (such that they cannot be deployed more than once mechanically).  You should be confident that you are at no risk for HIV transmission from this situation.
Please let us know if we can provide any more information or have additional questions.  Or if you would like to call and speak to someone at the Helpline, you can do so anonymously and confidentially by calling 640-696-4666, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm.
