Hello and thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as a source for HIV/AIDS-related information.

The situation that you have described presents no risk for HIV transmission. HIV transmission requires direct access for the virus to enter the bloodstream from another human. HIV cannot be transmitted through an inanimate object. This is because HIV dies upon exposure to oxygen.

Again, HIV cannot be transmitted by putting an inanimate object in your mouth.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

In health,

Natalie
