Hi and thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

You made a good decision to get tested for HIV after unprotected anal sex. However I would also like to encourage you to be re-tested at 84 days after exposure because the testing window is 4-12 weeks (84 days). Testing at 84 at days will give you a conclusive result that you can trust.

As for your symptoms, if you have a negative HIV test result your symptoms cannot be caused by HIV and you may wish to visit a doctor if the problem continues.

Condom use is always one of the best ways to protect both you and your partner from HIV and STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) but I would like to suggest that you also look at our AIDS Vancouver[ Risk Assessment ](http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/risk-assessment-chart)which may help you to determine how best to protect yourself.

If you have any other HIV related questions in the future, please feel free to contact the Helpline again.

Best wishes,

Marnelle
