Hi there,

Thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with such a great question.

I understand that you're concerned about if your HIV/Hepatitis C test results are considered conclusive, I hope this information will be able to help you.

All HIV tests are considered conclusive after 3 months. Considering you had yours done at 4 months, that test can be considered conclusive.
The exceptions you are referring to are only applicable in 4 scenarios:

1) if you're on antiretroviral treatment for Hep. C

2) if you're on treatment for cancer (chemotherapy)

3) If you're on PEP/PREP treatmenjt for HIV

4) if you have an immunodeficiency disease (you would know as you're diagnosed at birth).

Testing Hepatitis C positive wouldn't have any effect on the HIV test. If you test positive AND are on treatment for Hep. C, then the conclusive window for HIV testing changes to 6 months.

Therefore, if you tested negative for both, your results can be considered conclusive.

Check out [catie.ca](catie.ca) for more information about HIV/Hep C.
Also, if you have any other concerns about your testing status, team up with your health care practitioner who should be able to help you!

Thanks again for such a great question, I hope this helped!

Sincerely,

Christina
