HI !! I had unprotected intercourse with a lady i meant in a bar, very stupid mistake. I got tested for all STIs after one month with a 4th generation test, all negative. I then did another two other 4th generation test at 8 and 10 weeks, both negative. I Finally had a 4th generation rapid test at 80 days and an Insti rapid test just over 12 weeks which came back negative too. I am feeling pretty confident about my results but since I have a new partner I want to be certain i am all good. Should I worry about unprotected intercourse with my new partner? should I test again?
Thanks fot your time !!

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the need to retest for HIV with a new partner. With a new partner, we recommend having protected intercourse. Unprotected anal or vaginal sex is considered to be a high risk activity. Condoms are not only high effective in preventing HIV transmission, but also highly effective in preventing other sexually transmitted infections. It is recommended to be tested at least annually for HIV for people with multiple sex partners [1]. If you are concerned about your partner being HIV positive, we recommend both you and your partner taking an HIV test.

Regards,
AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Ashley
