Hi there,

Thank you for choosing AIDS Vancouver for your source of HIV/AIDS related information. It's great to see that you are taking initiative when it comes to your health and well being!

Engaging in sexual activity with a commercial sex worker does not pose any additional risk for HIV acquirement. It is the act which confers a risk, not the individual.

Receiving oral sex is considered a negligible risk factor for HIV transmission (even without the use of a condom). This means that no one has every acquired the virus from such an activity. For this particular circumstance, you do not require HIV testing; however, at AIDS Vancouver we advocate for all sexually active individuals to test regularly for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, as part of a healthy lifestyle.

I hope I have addressed all of your concerns, and please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions!

All the best,

Greg
