Hiv test looking for p24 and hiv1 hiv2 antibodies is 100% reliable in 80 and 100 days? I did this test and the result was NEGATIVE.
It was a low/negligent exposure. It was unprotected oral sex, protected vaginal sex and fingering with nail and skill bitting. (It was my first and only sex in life)
I read in many websites that windows period can be 6 months, 1 year and the doctors can't explain this.
I'm so scared. I don't know. I have fear of late seroconversion. You probably will say that i'm negative but i don't what to think about it.
And if i am a rare late seroconversion? what is the probability? i don't use drugs, i don't have immuno-deficiency conditions (i guess) and i don't have hepatiti "i guess), i'm not in cancer treatment. what is my chances in % of late seroconversion?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver for HIV/AIDS related information.

To answer your questions, HIV test results are considered accurate, reliable and conclusive 84 days/3 months/12 weeks post-exposure. So if your test results are negative, then you are HIV negative.

You also are aware that your exposure risk was very low because you used condoms. I want to congratulate you for that because you significantly reduced your risk. This is because for transmission to occur, the virus needs direct access to your bloodstream through an activity like unprotected vaginal sex. Oral sex does not place you at significant risk, and neither does fingering. So you did not place yourself at risk.

The information you are reading is outdated. According to the World Health Organization, the window period is 3 months. As you may know, the window period is longer for those undergoing chemotherapy, taking Hep C treatments or having immuno-deficiency syndromes. You would definitely know if you were experiencing those.

The chances of a late seroconversion in your case are extremely extremely rare. Since you already received two test results confirming that you are HIV negative, ask yourself what it would take for you to accept these results?

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask,

Best
Maggie
