Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the HIV transmission risk associated with giving and/or receiving unprotected oral sex. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be Low Risk (evidence of transmission occurs through these activities when certain conditions are met). Of the two activities described above, performing oral sex without a barrier is determined to be of greater risk (Low Risk) than receiving oral sex (Negligible Risk).

The scenario mentioned above could meet the three components of the [Transmission Equation](https://www.aidswindsor.org/healthy-me/hiv-transmission/) if while performing oral sex HIV-containing bodily fluids gain direct access to your bloodstream (1). The easiest way to lower the risk of transmitting HIV through performing or receiving oral sex is to use a condom. It is also very responsible of you to access PrEP. Daily oral PrEP can greatly reduce the likelihood of acquiring HIV (2).

Recommendation: Refer to a physician for annual HIV testing and other health related questions.

Regards,

AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Marie
