Hi,

I received a Oraquick test after 4 weeks of unprotected anal sex as a bottom. Should I be worried of the test result changing at the 12 week mark?

Hello and thank you for your question!

There are 2 types of Oraquick tests, so I will outline both.

The home test: We do not recommend home testing because there is a greater chance it can yield false results due to human error. Further, it does not provide any option for counselling if you were to need it following your result.

The test done at a clinic/lab: This test is a "rapid" test and is usually done this way in the US. If this is the test you received, rapid tests detect 95% of infections within 4-6 weeks.

In either case, we recommend retesting at a professional medical facility at the 12 week mark. This doesn't mean your results are highly likely to change, but it ensures a conclusive result at this time so that you can be confident in the result.

I hope this helps. If you need testing sites or other information, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best,

Caroline
