Hi there and thank you for contacting us at AIDS Vancouver, we are happy to help

It sounds as though you are worried about an encounter you had with a girl, which included having vaginal or anal sex. You also mentioned that you were not wearing a condom and that you had a small cut wound and that she was bleeding during the sexual encounter.

According to the HIV transmission equation which I have posted below, having unprotected anal sex is a high risk activity for HIV transmission. You mentioned that your friend was bleeding, it is unclear from what area she was bleeding however having direct access to the bloodstream with body fluids such as blood involved is a risk for HIV transmission. We do encourage all individuals who are sexually active to get regular HIV testing. Here is a link to the test sites for Canada: http://www. hiv411.ca

HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection
Thank you again for contacting us at AIDS Vancouver. Hopefully this information was helpful to you

Sincerely,
