I recently had a MSM encounter with someone. Neither one of us is on PREP. We were making out naked and I could feel is penis pressing against my anus. The tip of his penis pressed considerably inside anus but I quickly pulled back. Would this be considered low risk or am I at risk at being HIV infected? It happened last Wednesday the 4th of July. Should I consider any immediate actions?

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about your risk of HIV acquisition from the described anal receptive sex activity. Although you described this scenario to be brief, your activity still satisfies the three components of our transmission equation. It does satisfy the equation because of the possibility of pre-seminal fluid making contact with your anus, which can be a direct access to the bloodstream. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be high risk (Evidence of transmission through these activities and is the majority of cases of transmission).

We recommend referring to your physician for an HIV test.

If you are continuously engaging in high risk activity there are biomedical approaches such as PrEP and PEP that help lower your risk of acquiring HIV. Refer to your physicians for further information.

Best,
AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Cody
