Hello there..I took PEP for only three days after a very low risk exposure (naked rubbing) and oral sex. I'm a female...the person who I was involved with got a negative hiv test but I still want to get tested just in case he was in the window period.. since I took PEP 3 days when should I get tested ? I know 6 month and 3months are ideal but I'm trying to also comfort myself more so is there an earlier date I can test?

Hello There,

Thank you for posting on the AIDS Vancouver Helpline Forum.

Naked rubbing is actually a no risk activity. However, oral sex depending on whether you were giving or receiving varies from low to negligible risk. Giving oral sex is a low risk activity where receiving oral sex is a negligible risk activity meaning there has never been a confirmed report of this activity being attributed to HIV infection.

It is hard to say whether taking PEP for only 3 days rather than the entire course would have the same effect in terms of the delay of results, however, you can still get tested as early as 10-12 days post exposure using the pooled RNA NAAT "Early Test". It should be a good indication of your HIV status. All HIV test results are conclusive at 3 months post exposure. We have never seen results change past the 6 weeks. It is under your own discretion to get retested at the 3 months and 6 months.

Although the activities you have engaged in are not high risk activities, you can get tested for your peace of mind.

Hope this helps!
