I popped a friends pimple who I found out was HIV positive, and I believe a bit of blood may have came out onto my nail. I did put hand sanitizer on my hand. Am I at risk for catching the virus?

Hello,

Thank you for your choosing AIDS Vancouver for your enquires. This is a good question and I hope I will be able to offer you some information that will put your mind at ease.

Since, the virus itself is a vulnerable virus and has a difficult time to survive outside the body, it dies right away. The virus needs particular conditions for survival. Are you at risk for catching the virus itself? No, since the virus has been expose to air and died quickly. I have attached a copy of the risk of hiv transmission below.
