Thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum.

It sounds like you are distressed about having acquired HIV. You have a good question and it shows you are taking initiative for your health by bringing up your concern.

You are at no risk for HIV. The vaginal fluid from your hand was exposed to air, and once HIV is exposed to air it can not be passed on.
I want to add that it is good you chose to use a condom and have protected sex!

Here is the HIV transmission equation which will hopefully help you understand how HIV can be transmitted.

HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection
