Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the possibility of HIV transmission from your hairdresser (who may possibly have a small cut on his finger) to yourself due to a small cut on your skin that was caused by the razor, given that he theoretically presses his own bleeding finger onto the wound on your skin. From the information given, if what you described did indeed take place, this scenario is determined to be Negligible Risk (there is no evidence or no documented cases of transmission. However, there is a theoretical possibility of transmission under certain extenuating circumstances).

The scenario mentioned above does meet the three components of the transmission equation (see below). HIV transmission requires the transfer of an HIV positive fluid (such as blood) coupled with a High, Low, or Negligible Risk activity that provides the HIV virus with direct access to the bloodstream.

In your situation, the reason why there may possibly be a risk of HIV transmission is that, if what you described did indeed take place, there is direct access to the bloodstream. If your hairdresser truly had a bleeding wound on his finger and, by happenstance, pressed his small bleeding cut onto your own small bleeding cut, this rare occurrence would theoretically result in the transfer of an HIV positive fluid (blood) through direct access to the bloodstream, given that your hairdresser does indeed have HIV.

Recommendation: there is no evidence or no documented cases of transmission. Refer to a healthcare professional for more personalized answers.
