Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your question.

It seems like you are concerned about the risk of contracting HIV by having protected sex. We are glad to provide some information.

Having protected sex is a Negligible Risk activity. This means that although the activity involves an exchange of body fluids, there has never been a confirmed case of HIV transmission by this method. We do not determine the HIV status from symptoms. The only way one can determine their HIV status is by getting tested. At AIDS Vancouver we encourage people to use HIV testing as a regular health maintenance routine. It is very easy to arrange an HIV status and you can also remain anonymous.

If you are concerned about getting STD then the best person to contact is your doctor. You can also get information on safe sex from http://www.smartsexresource.com
If you have any further questions feel free to contact us again.

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
