Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. We are happy to help answer your question.

The rabies vaccine does not affect the window period of an HIV test, and with no additional exposures, the results of all HIV tests can be considered reliable and conclusive at 3 months post-exposure (or later).

There are only 4 situations that affect the window period of your HIV test, and they are:

* Treatment for Heptatitis C (HCV)

* Treatment for Cancer (chemotherapy)

* P.E.P. treatment for HIV

* Other immunodeficiency diseases (usually diagnosed in early life/infancy)

For future reference, HIV testing guidelines for people living in BC can be found [here](http://www.bccdc.ca/NR/rdonlyres/B35EDEBD-98CA-48BB-AB7C-B18A357AC19D/0/HIV_GUIDE_051114.pdf)

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. Feel free to contact us again, or call us for immediate assistance with general inquiries, in the future.

Sincerely,

Marta
