Hi there, and thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum,

It sounds like you are distressed about having acquired HIV after your oral sex experience. I hope I am able to provide you with some information that will help bring some comfort to you.

I want to say that you took great initiative in getting tested for HIV.

First off, receiving oral sex has a negligible risk. This means that there has been no confirmed reports of HIV from recieving oral sex.
As for giving oral sex, that is low risk activity for someone who is giving and has severe, deep cuts in their mouth (requiring medical attention).

You can consider your test results from May 18 to be conclusive (most likely accurate) if you were not engaged in any possible exposure after November 2014. Official HIV testing guidelines suggest test results to be most accurate 3 months (or 12 weeks) after possible exposure.

If you are still worried about your test results, I suggest partnering up with your doctor. You can also read more about HIV transmission on our website. If you are living in the BC area, you can give our helpline a call if you have more questions.

I hope I was of some help to you. Thank you again for your question.
