I went for a massage, which became a full blown sensual massage with protected sex. During the message, I used my finger to please the girl and forgot about a tiny outer skin break of my finger. There wasn't any blood, but the skin was broken a day before intentionally my me to drain the tiny growth filled with a clear liquid. I am worried about the chances of me getting hiv if the girl(probably an escort) was positive.

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the possibility of HIV transmission through fingering with a hand that may have had some cuts on it.

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be Negligible Risk (there is no evidence or no documented cases of transmission, however, there is a theoretical possibility of transmission under certain extenuating circumstances).

From the HIV Transmission Equation (see below), HIV transmission requires HIV particles in a bodily fluid (e.g. vaginal fluids) to have direct access to the bloodstream through a High, Low, or Negligible Risk activity.

A superficial cut, such as the tiny outer skin break that you described, would not be large enough to allow HIV particles to have sufficient access to the bloodstream, while an open cut/wound may allow transmission to occur. With small cuts that are not actively bleeding, it is highly unlikely for HIV particles to have direct access to the bloodstream, and consequently, for the HIV Transmission Equation to be satisfied. Therefore, there is a Negligible Risk of HIV transmission in this situation.

Recommendation: There are no evidence or no documented cases of transmission. Refer to a healthcare professional for more personalized answers.

All the best,
AIDS Vancouver Online/Helpline, Shirley
