Hi from Greece! First of all I want to say that I always perform safe sex. I'm gay and did a rapid test a week ago, it is negative. 5 weeks ago I only had oral sex with a guy (I took it in my mouth) but he didn't had pre-cum. Then I masturbated him and he ejacuated on his belly. I licked a little of him cum and swallowed it. Yesterday he informed me that he found out he is possitive. How big is the risk with this sexual pracetice I've done? I'm worried and I'm waiting to pass more two months to retest.

Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. It is great that you have safe sex practices in general and that you got tested after your experience five weeks ago. An early negative result at 4 weeks after exposure is encouraging, but you are correct that getting re-tested at 3 months is advisable for a conclusive result. I appreciate that this is a very stressful time for you while you wait. While there was some risk to you, your initial test result is encouraging. I hope however that you will follow up with testing later as it can take 4-12 weeks for antibodies to reach a detectable level.

Try to take good care of yourself in the meantime, knowing that you have made the right decision to get tested.

If you have other HIV related questions in the future, please contact us at the Helpline again.

All the best,

Marnelle
