Hi,

I hope am not being silly but am concerned. I had contact with an HIV+ person over the weekend and it included fondling of breasts, buttocks and playing around with the vagina though with no underwear removed. Soon after that the lady made a confession that she was living with HIV and i kind of freaked out and since then have been concerned. What if she injected me with some blood or something to infect me(just being paranoid i guess). I have visited the doctors and refused me a dose of PEP. what should i do? Am i infected?

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about your risk of acquisition of HIV from sexual contact with a person of HIV positive status (without the exchange of bodily fluids).

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be no risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario). The scenario mentioned above is considered no risk because it does not meet the three components of the transmission equation. It does not satisfy the equation because the activity described does not involve body fluid with direct access to the blood stream.

PEP is administered to those in emergency situations after possible HIV exposure.
The following are activities in which PEP would be administered:
- intercourse without a condom
- sharing of needles while injecting
- sexual assault
- direct transfer of fluid to the blood stream

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a physician for other health related questions.

Regards,
AIDS Vancouver Helpline/Online, Cody
