Hi! I am a male who experienced sexual intercourse with another male a year ago. My question is that, is rubbing my penis to my partner's until he ejaculated exposed me to risk of contracting HIV? None of us wore condom that time.

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline forum.

It sounds like you are concerned and trying to assess your risk during an activity. To understand your risk of transmission I thought I could expand on possible activity that could have taken place.

Non-insertive masterbation (touching) is considered a No Risk activity. This risk could become Negligible if the head of your penis comes in contact with the head of the other person's penis because of the risk of exchanging bodily fluids (*see docking). Negligible means that in theory HIV could be transmitted this way but there are no confirmed reports.

This risk assessment chart from AIDS Vancouver highlights this information. [Risk Assessment Chart](http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/risk-assessment-chart)

Sexual intercourse (giving or receiving sex) without a condom is considered a High Risk activity.

I hope this makes how HIV can be transmitted a little more understandable. If you are looking for more information feel free to contact us or you can use the AIDS Vancouver Transmission Equation to increase your understanding:
HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection
At AIDS Vancouver we always recommend using a condom for all sexual contact.
A great resource for learning about safer sex is [Smart Sex Resource](http://smartsexresource.com/).

Hope this helps,
